Individuals Coming Off Slimming Jabs Regain Weight Four Times Faster Than Dieters

Weight management involves long-term strategies.

Fresh analysis suggests that individuals who discontinue new weight-loss injections like Wegovy and Mounjaro can put back on reduced body mass at a significantly accelerated pace than those who end traditional lifestyle regimens.

Published data in a prominent medical journal demonstrates that while overweight people often shed a large proportion of their total mass while using the jabs, the weight is regained at an average rate of nearly a kilo each month once they quit.

"People using such medications need to be aware of the risk of quick weight regain when the therapy concludes," stated expert Dr. Susan Jebb.

That rate of regain suggests a return to starting weight in about a year and a half.

Weighing Therapies

The analysis, which examined dozens of trials involving over 9,000 of patients, compared the effects of the injectable medications with other pills.

The team emphasize that individuals who shed pounds through dieting generally have a less rapid weight regain—approximately 100 grams monthly—once they finish.

The Reason for the Fast Rebound

Experts believe the mechanism of the drugs explains the heightened rebound.

These medications imitate a natural hormone called glucagon-like peptide-1, which helps regulate hunger.

"Artificially providing the hormone concentrations far above than the body's typical production may cause the body to produce less of its endogenous hormone, and may also lessen sensitivity to its actions," explained Dr. Adam Collins, a nutrition specialist.

"Stopping of this GLP-1 'fix' means appetite is no longer kept in check, making overeating much more probable."

An Ongoing Condition?

Health authorities recommend the injections for people with weight-linked health risks, alongside prescribed lifestyle changes.

Many experts say that, considering the likelihood of weight regain, the therapy should be considered life-long.

This perspective is echoed by drug manufacturers, who say that the findings "underscore the long-term nature of excess weight," similar to managing diseases like high blood pressure.

User Testimonies

People who have discontinued the jabs report a sudden resurgence of cravings.

"It felt as if something activating and you become starving," said a patient.

This difficulty is exacerbated if users have not developed lasting dietary or behavioural changes during therapy.

Widespread Interest

Figures show that a significant number of people in the UK have used weight-loss jabs in the last 12 months, with interest remaining high.

  • Use is higher among females compared to males.
  • The 40s and 50s demographic shows the highest level of interest.
  • Many obtain the drugs through private healthcare rather than the NHS.

In conclusion, researchers caution that while GLP-1 drugs are potent tools for shedding pounds, they are not a magic cure and long-term success hinges on integrated behavioural support.
